Volunteering as a general tutor for 2nd and 3rd graders at her local <\/span>elementary school, Julia quickly became fascinated with the discrepancy<\/span> <\/span>with which some of her young learners could read or not. Kids with access<\/span> <\/span>to the same teachers and methods were vastly different in their<\/span> <\/span>capabilities.<\/span><\/p>\n In 2019, Julia found Orton Gillingham and a very effective mentor. Her <\/span>fascination grew and she decided that she would dedicate her work solely<\/span> <\/span>towards literacy. <\/span>Through Orton Gillingham, she learned to use explicit, direct, sequential,<\/span> <\/span>systematic, multi-sensory instruction to teach reading, which is not only<\/span> <\/span>effective for all students but essential for teaching students with dyslexia.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”3_5,2_5″ _builder_version=”4.27.9″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat” min_height=”772.2px” custom_margin=”||0px||false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″ custom_padding=”25px|||||”][et_pb_column type=”3_5″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”|||” global_colors_info=”{}” custom_padding__hover=”|||”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.9″ _module_preset=”default” width=”100%” min_height=”331px” custom_margin=”25px||||false|false” custom_padding=”25px||28px|0px|false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″]<\/p>\n In addition to tutoring students through her private practice, she also <\/span>continues to volunteer at her local public elementary school. She has <\/span>pledged to continue to volunteer her skills for struggling young learners <\/span>without access to formal reading instructional methods. She has <\/span>seen first hand how her influence with children with learning differences or non-native English speaking students can change the trajectory of their educational experience academically, behaviorally and socially.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/span>Julia is outgoing and friendly. She is an avid fly fisherman. Additionally, she<\/span> <\/span>recently discovered ballroom dancing and has fallen for the <\/span>pageantry and glitter.
