OG FAQ

  • Structured literacy approach: Developed by Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham, OG was designed for learners with dyslexia and other reading difficulties and is now used broadly.
  • Explicit, systematic, and cumulative: Skills are taught directly in a planned sequence, with concepts building from simple to complex and reviewed for long-term retention.
  • Multi-sensory: Lessons integrate visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile pathways to strengthen decoding, spelling, and handwriting.
  • Diagnostic and prescriptive: Instruction is individualized, paced to mastery, and adjusted continuously based on ongoing assessment and student performance.
  • Language-focused across levels: Teaches the structure of English—phonology, sound–symbol correspondences, syllable types, spelling patterns, morphology (prefixes, suffixes, roots), and syntax—to improve both reading and spelling.
